DOURO HOTEL-SHIPS MAY COME TO HAVE NEW BASE DOCKING
(Jan.2020) The exponential growth of tourist navigation along the Douro river, in hotel-ships, triggered the need to create a new base docking to support this specific fleet.
On the table is the possibility of converting the Cavaco pier, located in VN de Gaia, to maritime-tourist vessels.
This APDL initiative is being developed by CONSULMAR, which recently completed the Development Design which demonstrates the technical feasibility of the intervention at Cavaco pier site.
The proposal refers to the creation of a 500 m long pier on piles, along the bank of the Douro river, for mooring hotel-ships.
On the land side, a modern passenger terminal and respective accesses will be built, and all technical networks to support the activity will be installed.
Planning the vessels parking and disciplining the activities of passenger embarkation/disembarkation and the supply operations of hotel-ships are other objectives underlying the APDL initiative.
