MARITIME STRUCTURES OF MADEIRA AIRPORT UNDER REVIEW
(Oct.2019) Madeira Airport, whose expansion, in 1995-2000, was carried out, in part, on land conquered from the sea, has an embankment where most of the pillars that support the runway platform are located, and a small port where the Aid Shipwrecks works too.
The maritime structures that guarantee the protection of the embankment and the AS, being subject to the direct action of the waves, need regular inspection and, when justified, maintenance works.
It is in this context that ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal awarded CONSULMAR the studies and projects for the Reconditioning of Maritime Structures at Madeira Airport.
The Detailed Design provides for the recharge and re-profiling of the embankment protection dike, which, in fact, was designed by CONSULMAR when the airport was expanded, as well as the recharge of the tetrapod layer that protects the AS wharf.
